VOLUME 24
MIE
Ise Grand Shrine, Meoto Iwa Wedded Rocks & Iga Ninja
The prefecture runs north to south down the eastern flank of the Kii peninsula, beginning inland in the Iga basin and ending in the Pacific surf below Kumano. Follow it that way. Iga sits high and dry in mountain country, its castle keep on a rocky outcrop and its low-eaved townhouses hiding the corridors and revolving doors of the old ninja schools; the kilns here pull scorched, crackle-glazed Iga-yaki from the fire, and silk braiders work the eight-strand kumihimo at low looms. The land falls toward the Ise plain. At Jingu, the Naiku and Geku stand in unpainted hinoki inside their cedar groves, the Uji Bridge arching the Isuzu River, the Okage Yokocho lanes warm with akafuku rice cakes and skewers. East, the coast opens. Futamigaura holds Meoto Iwa beneath its shimenawa rope; the bays of Toba and Shima fold into ria coves where ama divers still work the inshore reefs from wooden tubs and Akoya pearls come up in their half-shells from Ago Bay. South of Daiosaki the road climbs into the Kumano peninsula, where the Ise-ji corridor of the Kumano Kodo threads cobbled passes through standing cedar, past stone Jizo at the trailside, descending to the wave-cut stacks of Onigajo and the long pebble shore of Shichirimihama. A pilgrim route, inland to sea. Forty pages here. Begin in the mountains.

The Mie coloring book is Volume 24 of Sora Mikami's Prefectures of Japan series, a 47-volume collection that explores Japan one prefecture at a time. It gathers 40 original black-line illustrations of Mie. It draws on Ise Grand Shrine, Meoto Iwa Wedded Rocks, and Iga Ninja, alongside the everyday scenes Mie considers its own.
You will find Ise Grand Shrine, Meoto Iwa Wedded Rocks, and Iga Ninja, together with the landmarks, food, and quiet corners that give Mie its character. The compositions move between detailed, intricate pages and calmer, more breathable ones, so there is something for every mood.
Yes. The book mixes detailed illustrations with more open, breathable designs, so beginners and experienced colorists alike can settle in. The large 8.5 x 8.5 inch square pages give you plenty of room to work, and every page is printed single-sided.
Colored pencils, markers, and gel pens all work beautifully. Because every illustration is printed single-sided on white paper, you can use heavier media without bleed-through onto another design. Slip a sheet of card behind the page if you want to be sure.
It is Volume 24 of a planned 47, one book for every Japanese prefecture. The volumes can be coloured in any order, and together they sketch the whole country one place at a time. Mie sits in the Kansai region of Japan.
