VOLUME 38
EHIME
Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama Castle & Shimanami Kaido
A folded Imabari towel sits on a cedar shelf, square, white, weighted heavier than it looks. Cotton spun fine, woven loose, washed in the soft mineral water of the Soja River until the pile gives under a thumb without resistance. The label is small and printed in two colours. Ehime makes its name in this kind of quiet utility. Beyond the mill, the prefecture runs from Matsuyama's wooden donjon down the citrus coast, where terraces of mikan and iyokan step toward the Seto Inland Sea, and the long pale arcs of the Shimanami Kaido lift across the islands. Inland, Ishizuchi keeps its ridge above pilgrim paths and Saijo's uchinuki springs; south, Uchiko's wax-merchant lanes hold yellow ochre under dark eaves, and Ozu Castle watches the Hijikawa for cormorant fires. Forty studies, page by page: a Tobe-yaki cup brushed in cobalt, the dial clock atop Dogo Onsen Honkan, a basket of jakoten warm from the fryer. Back at the shelf, another towel. The pile lifts.
“Citrus on the slope, white towel on the shelf.”

The Ehime coloring book is Volume 38 of Sora Mikami's Prefectures of Japan series, a 47-volume collection that explores Japan one prefecture at a time. It gathers 40 original black-line illustrations of Ehime. It draws on Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama Castle, and Shimanami Kaido, alongside the everyday scenes Ehime considers its own.
You will find Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama Castle, and Shimanami Kaido, together with the landmarks, food, and quiet corners that give Ehime its character. The compositions move between detailed, intricate pages and calmer, more breathable ones, so there is something for every mood.
Yes. The book mixes detailed illustrations with more open, breathable designs, so beginners and experienced colorists alike can settle in. The large 8.5 x 8.5 inch square pages give you plenty of room to work, and every page is printed single-sided.
Colored pencils, markers, and gel pens all work beautifully. Because every illustration is printed single-sided on white paper, you can use heavier media without bleed-through onto another design. Slip a sheet of card behind the page if you want to be sure.
It is Volume 38 of a planned 47, one book for every Japanese prefecture. The volumes can be coloured in any order, and together they sketch the whole country one place at a time. Ehime sits in the Shikoku region of Japan.
